MossWell Continuous Slot Screen
Continuous slot screen is manufactured by wrapping a shaped wire around an internal array of longitudinal rods. The wire and rod, generally made from carbon or stainless steel are joined by resistance welding. Screen sections are usually twenty feet long. Commonly referred to as continuous slot or wire wrap screen, this product was originally developed to overcome problems associated with cable tool wells drilled in fine grained, uniform sands in the North Central United States. These wells were typically completed in relatively shallow, thin aquifers that were very prolific in terms of water production.
Disadvantages of continuous slot screen are associated with its relatively low strength which necessitates special handling during installation and development and also restricts the extent of future well maintenance and repair efforts. Since the interior is obstructed by rods, the use of highly effective well development techniques such as swabbing is precluded. Should the screen be damaged, repair by swedging is impractical. Users of continuous slot screen are cautioned against using this product for purposes other than which it was originally designed.
