This situation occurs as a result of declining water tables where upper aquifers are separated from lower producing zones by impervious or semi-impervious strata. Water enters the well through higher perforations carrying air as it falls to the pumping level. No turbine pump bowl assembly can efficiently pump water which contains entrained air.
